I bought this mount off Ebay a few months ago. Tested it inside attached to the windscreen and it worked pretty well.
I have been hesitant to try it attached to the outside of the car, mainly because I didn’t really trust a $7 suction cup to hold up in the wind with the weight of a camera on it. This afternoon I decided to give it a try. I stuck it on the driver’s side door and mounted my Canon A720is on it with a safety line tied around the wing mirror in case the mount failed.
As you can see, the mount performed pretty flawlessly. It handled the wind, cornering and travelling over speed bumps without detaching itself. I did wash the part of the door where I was going to attach it, and put a little water under the suction cup to help keep it’s grip. For $7 I don’t think you could expect any more from it… except I wanted to keep pushing. Finally I tried mounting it to a window with my Canon 60D and 24-105mm lens, which is not a light combo.
The mount held my camera fine, and even when I put some downward pressure on the camera, it still didn’t drop off. I’d still be pretty hesitant (or possibly crazy) to mount this outside the car though!
